When telling a story, there are only seven basic plots. Or maybe three. Or maybe five. It depends on who you ask. But you need conflict. And you need a protagonist. Or maybe you don’t. Maybe you don’t need any characters at all?
Video Out’s latest call-for-submissions, Novel Narratives, is looking for works which tell stories through a fresh lens. Whether you’re examining the art of narrative, or telling a classic story in new ways, we are searching for works which embrace the full possibilities of the form. All genres and lengths accepted. Documentary/non-fic works welcomed.
To submit, please submit a weblink of the work (WeTransfers not accepted), a short synopsis, and an artist bio to the Google Form. Digital (including digitized film) submissions only, maximum two submissions per artist.
For those requiring alternative formats, video or phone submissions are also accepted for accessibility purposes. For any questions or accessibility requests, please contact distribution@vivomediaarts.com.
Video Out accepts works for screen, installation, and web-based contexts. A selection of works will be presented in a program in Spring 2025. Video Out is committed to compensating artists with a screening fee based on the IMAA (Independent Media Arts Alliance) suggested fee schedule.
